Registered Nurse Ambulatory Surgery

  • 3 OR, 3 Procedure room center
  • Multi-specialty
  • Peri-Operative experience preferred.
  • 10 hour shifts

Essential Duties

  • Provides care for the optimal patient experience by adhering to the organizations mission, vision and foundations.
  • Performs thorough preoperative patient assessment required in the outpatient setting.
  • Verifies the operative procedure utilizing physician order and patient statement, if needed obtains physician verification.
  • Obtains surgical consent and marks surgical site according to policy and procedure.
  • Reports deviation of diagnostic studies and or assessments as indicated.
  • Assesses patient/family learning needs and provides patient education during all phases of the patient’s experience.
  • Provides intraoperative/intraprocedural care to the patient including ongoing assessment, treatment and management of patient condition; administration of conscious sedation; supply management/documentation; and procedural documentation.
  • Performs safe and individualized nursing care/assessment for the patient in the postoperative period and documents according to policy.
  • Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition as appropriate.
  • Uses age specific standards, policies and procedures and guidelines to perform treatments that are appropriate based on patient’s age.
  • Relays appropriate hand off communication to OR/Procedural staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Prepares and administers medications in accordance with scope of practice and facility policy and procedure. Assures only licensed personnel administer medications within scope of practice.
  • Assesses discharge readiness and coordinates appropriate discharge plan.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting the needs of the Surgery Center.
  • Maintains all required licenses and certifications.
  • Assists visitors, staff and physicians utilizing good guest relations.
  • Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician.
  • Attends staff meetings and educational opportunities.
  • Prioritizes job responsibilities to facilitate optimum patient care and utilization of resources.
  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of peri-anesthesia process including surgical procedures and anesthesia implications
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with patients, families, staff, physicians, and all levels of employees
  • Ability to effectively contribute as a team member promoting cooperation, collaboration and flexibility in working with others to achieve quality patient care
  • Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and an independent, accountable, dependable performer
  • Ability to be accountable for quality customer service and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, security and standards of ethics with all information
  • Strong discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive information
  • Comply with all state/federal regulations (including HIPAA), company policies, standards and health & safety rules

Certifications & Licensure

  • Current Licensure in the State of Nebraska as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS)

Education & Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred
  • One to two years related work experience
  • Ambulatory surgery center experience preferred
  • Cardiology experience preferred
