As of October 2019, Advanced Medical Imaging (AMI) screening mammograms will be scheduled as 3D mammograms (also known as digital breast tomosynthesis – DBT). Instead of simply giving doctors four images to view, 3D shows an image for every millimeter of breast tissue without taking any extra time.
3D mammograms are the new standard for breast cancer screening and are now covered by all major insurance companies. Frequently asked questions for patients are available on the mammography page. Most patients without insurance can also receive access to a free 3D mammogram at AMI through their partners at Every Woman Matters (EWM). EWM is a federally funded program that provides services to medically under-served women ages 40-74. To enroll in this program, women can visit the EWM website or call (800) 532-2227.
AMI is physician owned, allowing their doctors to make decisions based on what is the best care for their patients. Their top considerations when making this decision were providing the best screening available, making sure it was affordable for patients and providing results as soon as possible. All of these variables aligned to make this change possible.
In September, AMI extended their Women’s Center hours into the evenings four days per week which, along with their Saturday hours, make it more accessible for working women to schedule this screening. Click here to view hours by department.
