Rahul Razdan, M.D. of Advanced Medical Imaging, is the first in Lincoln Nebraska to perform a Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE). GAE is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that can reduce or eliminate knee pain in patients.
Dr. Razdan performed this GAE on-site at AMI’s Surgery Center. Under image-guidance, Razdan placed a small catheter into the blood vessels of the leg that supply the knee joint. Once positioned in the knee joint, Razdan injected small micro sphere particles that slow the blood supply to the joint. As a result of the procedure, his patient is expected to experience a reduction in pain and other functional symptoms of osteoarthritis. This procedure took about 50 minutes, and the patient was able to go home the same day.
“The procedure went great! I am looking forward to performing more GAE procedures in the future. It is noninvasive way to eliminate pain in an outpatient atmosphere.” -Rahul Razdan, M.D.
Dr. Razdan is at the forefront of the latest Interventional Radiology procedures that provide an effective alternative to surgery with minimal recovery time. This ground-breaking procedure was performed last week. Razdan performs many procedures including but not limited to: Tenex (for the treatment of plantar fasciitis), SphenoCath (migraine and headache relief), sclerotheraphy (for varicose and spider veins) and the formation of fistulas for dialysis patients.
