Registered Nurse Radiology

Job Summary

TheRegistered Nurse-Radiology is accountable for the delivery of professional,compassionate, and competent care to patients and families utilizingassessment, communication, education, and critical thinking. The RegisteredNurse-Radiology acts as a patient advocate throughout the diagnostic phase ofcare to ensure patient comfort, satisfaction, and well-being. The RegisteredNurse- Radiology will function in multiple modalities including interventional radiology,general diagnostic, CT, MR, Ultrasonography, Nuclear Medicine, and Mammography.

 

Essential Duties

  • Promotes a positive patient experience by following required policies and procedures. Treats each patient as their most important priority.
  • Facilitates the patient’s continuity of care in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Functions autonomously and in collaboration with other patient care team members as a patient advocate, educator, and coordinator.
  • Triages patient phone calls and provides follow-up for the needs of the patient.
  • Prepares for patient visits by coordinating care with external physician offices, verifying appointment times with patient, preparing charts, imaging studies and pre-admission information.
  • Facilitates flow of patients in accordance with appointment time to avoid delays for the provider and undue waiting for patients including keeping exam rooms stocked, clean and ready for use.
  • Assists with patient rooming including vital signs, patient health history, and preparing patient for examination/procedures.
  • Partners with providers and technologist by undertaking key responsibilities for diagnostic and interventional procedures including the proper preparation of patients, pre-procedure care and assessment, intra procedural care, post-procedure care and assessment, and patient education.
  • Assists technologists with preparation and administration of medications for imaging studies within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborates with breast care team to provide pre and post calls to patients scheduled for invasive breast procedures, assists with coordination of additional breast diagnostic procedures per physician’s request, monitors breast pathology to ensure appropriate and efficient delivery of results, and assists physician and technologist during invasive breast procedures as appropriate.
  • Assists healthcare team members with venipuncture.
  • Administers conscious sedation.
  • Completes accurate documentation in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Provides Occupational Health services to the clinic staff, e.g., vaccinations.
  • Works with the relevant IT systems (e.g., PACS, EMR) to identify actionable findings and document correspondence including receipt of imaging study results and follow-up when appropriate.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement projects to better serve the patient and family and to improve the quality of services provided.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

  • Computer proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Certifications & Licensure

  • Current Licensure in the State of Nebraska as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification(ACLS) required within three months  

Education & Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of professional nursing preferred
  • Three to five years nursing experience preferred
  • Prior experience in physician office and/or radiology nursing preferred
